76ers' Joel Embiid: On track to play in preseason

Embiid (foot) is expected to see the court during the preseason, Derek Bodner of Philly Mag reports. "Physically, mentally, recent medical scans, everything is pointing in the right direction," 76ers coach Brett Brown said, regarding Embiid's health. "We're just very excited."

Analysis:

The No. 3 overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft has spent his first two seasons as a professional on the sideline while recovering from consecutive surgeries on his right foot to address a fractured navicular bone. All indications are that his recovery from the August 2015 procedure is going as anticipated, and Embiid should finally have a chance to prove himself on the court this season. However, because of the severity of his injuries, lengthy time away from the game and depth in the 76ers' frontcourt, it's difficult to imagine Embiid receiving heavy minutes right out of the gate in 2016-17.
