Hornets' arena gets new name

Sam Sharpe-USA TODAY Sports

The Charlotte Hornets' home arena has been renamed the Spectrum Center, the organization officially announced Wednesday.

The renaming is a result of Spectrum parent company Charter Communications' purchase of Time Warner Cable in May. The facility, which opened in 2005, had been called Time Warner Cable Arena since 2008.

The arena, which seats 19,000 for basketball, was stripped last month of next season's NBA All-Star weekend as a result of North Carolina's controversial HB2 law. A replacement city has yet to be officially named, although New Orleans is the reported front-runner.
