Holiday may wear protective goggles during 2016-17 season

New Orleans Pelicans point guard Jrue Holiday may choose to rock the Horace Grant look for the upcoming 2016-17 campaign, if only for precautionary reasons.

An inadvertent elbow courtesy of New York Knicks rookie Kristaps Porzingis cost Holiday the final nine games of last season due to a orbital wall fracture. He underwent surgery in April to repair the damage, with a metal plate being inserted under his right eye, Holiday told NOLA.com's John Reid.

The 26-year-old says he may elect to don protective goggles, even though he's 100 percent recovered from his operation, according to the New Orleans Advocate's Scott Kushner.

Holiday's injury was one of many the Pelicans had to endure last season, with only two players on the roster making 70 or more appearances. His absence had one of the larger impacts on the team's record, though, with New Orleans going 3-6 over the final stretch and 3-14 on the season as a whole when he didn't suit up.

He averaged 16.8 points on 43.9 percent shooting, along with six assists, three rebounds, and 1.4 steals in 28.2 minutes primarily as a reserve.
