Kings' Ben McLemore: Not expected to sign extension before deadline

McLemore and the Kings aren't expected to agree on a contract extension before the Oct. 31 deadline, Bobby Marks of Yahoo! Sports reports.

Analysis:

McLemore, the seventh overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft, is entering the final season of his rookie contract, but with the Kings actively trying to trade him for the past year, it doesn't seem as though he's viewed as a part of the team's future plans. The 23-year-old regressed badly in his third NBA campaign in 2015-16, averaging 7.8 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.2 steals while shooting 42.9 percent from the floor across 21.2 minutes per game, more than 11 minutes fewer than he'd averaged the year before. With the Kings bringing in Arron Afflalo this offseason to start at shooting guard, McLemore's role may decline even further.
