Warriors' Kerr: Calling Durant, Curry villains 'absurd'

The Golden State Warriors may be ready to embrace the NBA's villain role, but their head coach doesn't think the shoe fits.

"To think of Kevin Durant or Steph Curry or any of our guys as villains, it's kind of absurd, especially Kevin," Steve Kerr told ESPN radio in a Sunday interview.

"This is one of the most likeable people in this league," Kerr said of Durant, who has received plenty of criticism since spurning the Oklahoma City Thunder to join the record-setting, 73-win Warriors. "He's just an awesome human being. What he did in Oklahoma City was just amazing for that community."

During his nine-year run with the Thunder/SuperSonics franchise, Durant put OKC on the NBA map, leading the team to the Western Conference finals four times, including a 2012 trip to the NBA Finals.

Between Durant and Curry, the Warriors now have the league's last three MVP winners, and are the first team in NBA history to feature four active All-NBA members.

"Circumstances kind of dictate, I guess, that some people are going to see him as a villain," Kerr said. "But it's only because he decided to go elsewhere to play. He wanted to change his scenery, he wanted a new challenge. More than anything he wanted to play with our guys."
