Thunder's Cameron Payne: Undergoes surgery for foot

Payne had surgery Monday to repair a Jones fracture of his right foot, but expects to be ready for the start of training camp, Anthony Slater of The Oklahoman reports.

Analysis:

Payne reportedly dealt with discomfort in the foot throughout the 2015-16 season, but was able to play through it, as the pain wasn't excessive. However, in order to avoid any further issues down the road, Payne opted to undergo a procedure, which should help him avoid any sort of aggravation. Assuming he recovers as expected, Payne should be able to open training camp with the top backup job at point guard behind Russell Westbrook. The second-year man is coming off a strong summer league, during which he averaged 18.8 points (on 43.6% shooting), 4.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.0 three-pointer over 30.0 minutes per game.
