Trey Burke excited to join playoff-caliber Wizards

Trey Burke is headed to the nation's capital after being traded to the Washington Wizards, and he couldn't be happier.

The 23-year old point guard, who's spent his whole career with the Jazz, believes he was due for a move out of Utah and to a playoff-caliber club.

"It was definitely time for a reset," Burke told Lev Facher of the Detroit Free Press. "A lot of the things that happened, I didn't understand. Just to have an opportunity again, being able to play with an All-Star-caliber point guard in John Wall, I look at it as an opportunity to go deep in the playoffs and win games."

Burke had grown accustom to winning, having led the Michigan Wolverines to the Big Dance in both of his college campaigns, not to mention the national championship game in his sophomore year.

In his three seasons with the Jazz, however, the team never had a winning record, and the former ninth overall pick's role diminished. He accumulated a dozen DNP CDs to close out this past campaign.

"My entire career, I've always won," Burke said. "To be in Utah, it was up and down. We had some success there, but just to be on another team that has the opportunity to make the playoffs again feels great."

The Ohio native averaged 10.6 points, 2.3 assists, and 1.8 rebounds while shooting 41.3 percent from the field and 34.4 percent from deep in 2015-16.

He hopes to be a serviceable backup to Wall with the Wizards, who came short of a playoff berth with a 41-41 record.
