Suns' Alan Williams: Likely to make Suns roster

Williams is likely to make the Suns' roster to begin the 2016-17 season, Paul Coro of the Arizona Republic reports. "Chances are, he'll have a spot [for Williams]," Suns GM Ryan McDonough said. "We told him to plan on being around our group and keep coming in to workouts. He's a native Phoenician so he's here most of the time. He spent a ton of time in the gym and I think you see the improvement in his body and game as well."

Analysis:

While Williams' contract for the 2016-17 season isn't guaranteed as of yet, the $874,636 he's owed fully vests if he remains on the roster after Sept. 1. Williams, a 6-foot-8 big man, was a First-Team All-Summer League performer for the Suns earlier this month, averaging 11.8 points and 11.2 rebounds across six games. Even if he does make the Suns' roster, Williams is unlikely to be a meaningful contributor on a night-to-night basis, especially if centers Tyson Chandler and Alex Len are able to stay healthy.
