Pop: Durant comparing himself to Ingram is 'unfair' to 2nd overall pick

If watching No. 2 overall pick Brandon Ingram is like "looking in the mirror" to Kevin Durant, than U.S. Select Team head coach Gregg Popovich will gladly purchase the four-time scoring a champion a new reflective surface to gaze into.

"I don't know what Kevin's thinking about, but if he said it, he's got to live with it," Popovich said on Wednesday, according to Lakers Nation's Serena Winters.

Popovich is referring to comments Durant made early in the week concerning the Los Angeles Lakers' top pick in last month's draft. "First person I can say, that I can look at him and feel like I'm looking in the mirror," Durant said of the Duke University star.

While Ingram undoubtedly has a world of potential, the San Antonio Spurs' sideline general feels it's not doing him any favors to place the 18-year-old in the same category of someone the caliber of Durant.

"Pretty tough to compare someone to Kevin Durant. Almost unfair." Popovich added.

Now Durant wasn't implying that Ingram is on his level before he even hits the floor for his first NBA game. Instead, what the four-time scoring champion was getting at is that Ingram is further along in his development than he was at his age.

The two have squared off on the hardwood during scrimmages, with Ingram competing as part of the Select Team and Durant an integral part of the Rio-bound Olympic roster.
