Motiejunas in talks with multiple teams, prioritizes Rockets

Donatas Motiejunas is still waiting for a fresh NBA contract, and while he'd love to stay with the Houston Rockets, he's open to a move elsewhere.

"There are a couple of teams that still have a lot of interest in me," the restricted free agent told Mark Berman of FOX 26 Sports from his native Lithuania.

"I'm not necessarily back. There are teams that also have a chance to offer (a contract). You never know what's going to happen, but if it ends up I'm coming back, I'm really happy.

"I spent four beautiful years with the Rockets, and I'll be happy to wear the red color another three-four (years), whatever it's going to be."

The 7-footer, whose agent has been negotiating with Houston, is optimistic.

"I talked to my agent (Tuesday), in the morning, and he told me that he's been talking with the Rockets the last couple of days," Motiejunas said. "I'm pretty confident everything is going to turn out for the best.

"Both sides are talking and trying to get an agreement. We're working on it, and I think it's a matter of time when everything is going to clear up."

The lack of an existing agreement forced the 25-year-old to miss out on the Summer Olympics.

"I couldn't go because the team just left (Tuesday) to Spain to play some friendly games," Motiejunas said. "The Federation asked me to tell them if I'm in or not, and I told them without a contract I cannot really go because of insurance problems. I didn't want to risk (injury) in that situation."

Injuries have been a concern, with the Lithuanian center only suiting up for 37 games this past season due to persistent by back issues. He insists he's overcome them.

"It's all good," Motiejunas said. "I'm working out. I have no problems. I'm just sitting and waiting at this point."

He averaged 6.2 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 1.1 assists in 14.8 minutes per contest in 2015-16 - all down from his breakout campaign the previous year.
