Pelicans' Tim Frazier: Reaches two-year deal to stay in New Orleans

Frazier agreed to re-sign with the Pelicans earlier this week on a two-year, $4.1 million contract, John Reid of the New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.

Analysis:

In order to facilitate cap space to re-sign Frazier, the Pelicans waived Toney Douglas before his $1.3 million contract for 2016-17 became guaranteed this past Tuesday, thereby clearing up some of the logjam in the backcourt. When injuries decimated the Pelicans roster last season, Frazier emerged from the chaff to give the team some effective minutes down the stretch. In his 16 games with the club, Frazier averaged 13.1 points, 7.5 assists and 4.4 boards and shot 45 percent from the floor and 41.9 percent from three-point range across 29.3 minutes per contest. Assuming the Pelicans are able to bank on better health from Jrue Holiday (eye) and Tyreke Evans (knee) heading into the upcoming season, Frazier doesn't figure to see ample court time due to the team's plentiful depth at guard. Even after the Pelicans dismissed Douglas, Frazier still has to contend with Holiday, Evans and offseason acquisitions E'Twaun Moore and Langston Galloway for court time.
