Andrew Bogut fell on the grenade to allow the Golden State Warriors to sign four-time scoring champion Kevin Durant for $54 million over two years. With the team needing to move him to create cap space, management afforded the 7-foot Aussie the opportunity to dictate where he wound up.

Golden State provided Bogut the option of deciding whether he would be traded to the Houston Rockets or Dallas Mavericks, league sources told ESPN's Tim MacMahon.

Bogut ultimately decided to move to Dallas, along with a conditional 2019 second-round pick in exchange for a future second-round pick. The Mavericks took on the remaining $11 million of the former No. 1 overall pick's contract.

Houston was reportedly willing to make a similar trade to acquire Bogut, who would have filled in as the new starting center with Dwight Howard heading home to join the Atlanta Hawks.

The Philadelphia 76ers also reportedly expressed interest in Bogut, but the Warriors felt obligated to send the 31-year-old to a situation with playoff aspirations and not where a rebuild is taking place.

In 70 appearances during the 2015-16 campaign, Bogut contributed averages of 5.4 points, seven rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.6 blocks in 20.7 minutes per game.
