Report: Deyonta Davis inks record deal for an American 2nd-round pick

Although it took a while for Deyonta Davis to hear his name called at the 2016 NBA Draft, he's getting paid handsomely for his patience.

The Memphis Grizzlies signed the power forward out of Michigan State to a three-year, $4-million deal Sunday, reports Shams Charania of The Vertical.

It's the most lucrative fully guaranteed contract ever signed by an American selected in the second round. The pact is worth more than the guaranteed slotted salary for the 16th-overall pick, which is roughly where Memphis saw the 19-year-old getting snatched on draft night.

The Grizzlies acquired the 31st overall pick, which they used to choose Davis, along with the 35th selection from the Boston Celtics for a future protected first-round pick from the L.A. Clippers.

The 6-foot-10, 240-pounder averaged 7.5 points on 59.8 percent shooting, 5.5 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks over 35 contests in his lone year with the Spartans.
