Mavericks waive JaVale McGee

The Dallas Mavericks cleared some cap space Friday, releasing veteran center JaVale McGee.
Dallas had been exploring options to rid itself of the 28-year-old's $1.4-million salary, which would have become fully guaranteed on Tuesday.
McGee, who is now an unrestricted free agent, appeared in just 34 games for the Mavericks last season, averaging 5.1 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 0.8 blocks in 10.9 minutes.
