The Boston Celtics will pick up their team option on Amir Johnson for the 2016-17 season, a league source told The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Johnson signed a two-year, $24-million contract with the franchise last summer after spending six seasons north of the border with the Toronto Raptors.

He played his best basketball of the year during Boston's first-round playoff matchup against the Atlanta Hawks, averaging 8.5 points and 7.2 rebounds while shooting 66.7 percent from the field.

Johnson will likely maintain his role as the starting power forward and play alongside newly signed All-Star center Al Horford, who recently agreed to a four-year max contract worth $113 million.
