Mavericks' Dirk Nowitzki: Agrees to new deal with Dallas

Nowitzki agreed Monday to re-sign with the Mavericks on a two-year contract worth around $40 million, Marc Stein of ESPN.com reports.

Analysis:

Though the Warriors were said to be interested in Nowitzki prior to the start of free agency, their signing of Kevin Durant closed the door on any chance of the German forward changing addresses. As was the likely outcome all along, Nowitzki will stick with the Mavericks and will remain under contract through his 40th birthday. Even at his advancing age, Nowitzki is still delivering high-quality production, as he averaged 18.3 points, 6.5 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.7 three-pointers in 31.5 minutes per game last season while shooting 44.8 percent from the field and 36.8 percent from three-point range. He'll again be one of the Mavericks' top scoring options in 2016-17.
