Wizards, Nicholson agree on 4-year, $26M contract

The Washington Wizards have agreed to terms with free-agent forward Andrew Nicholson on a four-year, $26-million contract.

The contract includes a player option after the third season.

Nicholson became an unrestricted free agent last week, after the Orlando Magic decided not to extend him a qualifying offer. Nicholson had a strong rookie campaign in 2012-13 before falling behind others on Orlando's depth chart. The 26-year-old bounced back somewhat last season, averaging 6.9 points and 3.6 rebounds in 56 games.

The Wizards earlier addressed their frontcourt needs with the addition of backup center Ian Mahinmi. At an average of $6.5 million per season, the Nicholson signing can be seen as a great deal on a player who should have more to prove. The suburban Toronto native was also thought to possibly be on the Raptors' radar this summer.
