Report: Losing out on Whiteside won't push Mavs to overpay for Howard

Even after losing out on Hassan Whiteside's services, the Dallas Mavericks are not interested in Dwight Howard at anywhere close to a maximum contract, according to multiple reports.

It's been widely reported for months that the Mavs would only be interested in Howard if his price tag drops. However, given the sort of money expected to be tossed around in free agency, odds are good the center will be well remunerated elsewhere.

Whiteside was purportedly a major target for the Mavericks - alongside point guard Mike Conley - until he surprised many by re-signing with the Miami Heat mere hours into free agency.

Furthermore, the Mavs will not target free agent Bismack Biyombo either, according to ESPN's Tim MacMahon.
