Report: Mavericks book meeting with Conley

Russ Isabella / USA TODAY Sports

The Dallas Mavericks have scheduled a meeting with free-agent guard Mike Conley on July 1, sources told ESPN's Chris Broussard.

Conley, who's spent all nine of his NBA campaigns with the Memphis Grizzlies, is reportedly seeking a five-year max contract, which only Memphis can give him, per league regulations.

"Mike wants the fifth year in Memphis because he's earned it,'' the source told ESPN, adding the former fourth overall pick could leave if he doesn't get it.

The 28-year old averaged 15.3 points, 6.1 assists, and 1.2 steals over 56 contests for the Grizzlies, who were swept in the first round of this year's playoffs.

Dallas is looking to improve its roster in free agency again this summer. Its starting point guard from this past season, Deron Williams, has already informed the team he's opting out of his deal, so Conley is being viewed as a potential replacement.

Friday's meeting with the Mavs is reportedly the only one Conley has booked so far, but as one of, if not the top player available at the one-spot this offseason, other teams are expected to reach out to him.

Clubs believed to be interested in the Arkansas native include the Brooklyn Nets, Los Angeles Lakers, Houston Rockets, and New Orleans Pelicans.
