Spurs' Boris Diaw: Won't be waived by San Antonio

The Spurs have no plans to waive Diaw, making his $7 million salary fully guaranteed for the 2016-17 season, ESPN.com's Marc Stein reports.

Analysis:

The team would save $4 million if they released Diaw before Thursday's deadline, but management determined that the veteran was valuable enough in his reserve role to justify staying with the organization at that salary. Though he remains undecided on retirement, Tim Duncan recently agreed to exercise his $5.6 player option for 2016-17, so if he ends up returning, Diaw could see his role diminish next season. The Spurs are expected to make a run at adding another frontcourt player in free agency, with ex-Bulls big man Pau Gasol believed to be topping their wishlist.
