The Miami Heat are finalizing a contract extension with head coach Erik Spoelstra, sources told The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski.

The extension will be for two years, keeping Spoelstra under contract through 2019, reports Ethan Skolnick of The Miami Herald.

The 45-year-old has one year remaining on the extension he signed prior to the 2013-14 season. Heat owner Micky Arison and president Pat Riley were reportedly eager to lock him up before he had a chance to hit the open market.

Through eight seasons at the helm in Miami, Spoelstra has compiled a 399-241 record, and led the Heat to six playoff appearances, four Finals appearances, and two NBA titles. This past season, he coached the team to a 48-34 record and to within one win of the Eastern Conference finals, despite losing power forward Chris Bosh for the second half of the season and center Hassan Whiteside for most of the second round.

Spoelstra, who got his start as the Heat's video coordinator, has been with the organization for over 20 years. He's the longest-tenured head coach in the Eastern Conference, second in the NBA behind only San Antonio Spurs bench boss Gregg Popovich.
