Report: Solomon Hill wants $9M-$13M per year, Jazz interested

The Utah Jazz won't stop until they have every former Indiana Pacer named Hill.

Days after agreeing to trade for Pacers point guard George Hill, the Jazz are showing interest in signing combo-forward Solomon Hill, according to Tony Jones of The Salt Lake Tribune.

The Pacers declined the fourth-year option on Hill's rookie contract before last season, so he will officially become an unrestricted free agent at the stroke of midnight Friday. He's reportedly looking for a contract worth somewhere between $9 million and $13 million per year.

The interest between the Jazz and Hill is mutual, but the team may still have to outbid a "fertile" market for his services, Jones reports, citing league sources.

Hill, 25, emerged as a crucial part of the Pacers rotation during this year's playoffs. He averaged 7.7 points and four rebounds, while shooting 57.9 percent from 3-point range and ably defending three positions in a seven-game loss to the Toronto Raptors. The Pacers were nearly nine points per 100 possessions worse with him on the bench during the series, after being nearly three points per 100 worse without him during the regular season.

His absurd 3-point shooting in the playoffs is obviously not sustainable (he's a career 32.5-percent shooter from deep), but the bulk of his value comes from his positional versatility, particularly at the defensive end. Hill can play either wing position, or slide to power forward in small lineups. He's a willing passer and a strong rebounder for his size, averaging 6.9 boards and 2.4 assists per 36 minutes last season.
