Grizzlies claim Tony Wroten off waivers

Kelvin Kuo-USA TODAY Sports

Tony Wroten will get yet another chance to stick in the NBA.

Following his release from the New York Knicks, the oft-injured point guard was picked up off waivers by the Memphis Grizzlies, ESPN's Ian Begley reports.

Wroten latched on with the Knicks on a three-year deal in March, but he didn't play due to a torn ACL he sustained as a member of the Philadelphia 76ers.

He's only made 38 appearances over the past two seasons while playing a little over 1,000 minutes.

When healthy, Wroten has proven to be an effective slashing combo guard who can fill up the stat sheet in a hurry. He does struggle, however, with bouts of sloppy ball-handling, and his jump shot is suspect.

Wroten holds career per-game averages of 11.1 points and three assists on 41.3 percent shooting.
