Report: Nets favorites for Spanish guard Rodriguez

The Brooklyn Nets could badly use some help in the backcourt, and they're looking overseas for floor generals.

European basketball reporter David Pick relays that the Nets are favorites to land Real Madrid point guard Sergio Rodriguez, who was once a first-round pick of the Phoenix Suns in 2006.

Rodriguez played five seasons as a backup for the Portland Trail Blazers and Sacramento Kings before heading home to dominate the Spanish league. Rodriguez led Los Blancos to three ACB championships and a Euroleague title in 2015 in six seasons.

The pesky Spaniard profiles as a defensively composed lead guard who can handle the ball and hit knockdown threes. His jump shot was a weakness in his first go-around in the NBA, but he connected on a league-best 50 percent of his treys in 2015 with Real Madrid.

Jarrett Jack is the Nets' only point guard under contract for next season and beyond.
