Phil Jackson: Rose trade is 'reinvigorating' for Anthony

New York Knicks president Phil Jackson said Thursday that Carmelo Anthony has given his vote of approval to the acquisition of Derrick Rose.

"He sees that as a positive move," said Jackson, according to ESPN's Ian Begley. "I think that's reinvigorating for him. I think it's good."

In March, Anthony put the onus on his boss and the Knicks to do something in the offseason to improve the roster. Jackson - who told Anthony two years ago that the team's rebuilding project would take some time - feels that adding Rose helps with that process.

"We've talked about that a little bit," Jackson said. "'Are we moving fast enough to accomplish goals that you have for yourself and your career?'

"Melo and I have talked about that: whether we're on the right time frame with him, is he disappointed or whatever? I think this is a positive move."

Three months ago, Jackson told reporters that the Knicks didn't need a traditional point guard - mainly because his triangle offense has never required a ball-dominant backcourt distributor. With the hiring of Jeff Hornacek as head coach, however, the Knicks are expected to employ more diversity in their play-calling.

As such, Jackson pointed out that Rose's strength has always been in penetration as opposed to passing.

"I felt the need to have a decisive attack guard moving forward and made this choice," Jackson said. "I always talk about lead guard activity, and he's one of the guys you know that's decisive, aggressive, and he has a very high competitive level to his game."
