76ers' Ben Simmons: Selected No. 1 overall by 76ers

Simmons was selected by the 76ers with the first overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft.

Analysis:

Widely viewed as the top draft prospect before he even set foot on a college campus, Simmons ultimately fulfilled that destiny following his dominant freshman season at LSU. The Australian-born forward put up a gaudy stat line, averaging 19.2 points, 11.8 rebounds and 4.8 assists while showing uncommon skills for a player who checks in at 6-foot-10 and 240 pounds. Simmons was at his best in transition, comfortable both running the break and finishing it off, and showed an uncanny ability to get to the free-throw line. Simmons drew criticism for his occasionally lackadaisical defense and unreliable jump shot, but there's no denying that his athleticism and raw talent is unparalleled by any other prospect in the draft. He could end up being the superstar the 76ers have desperately waited for since they began their long-term rebuilding process, and should open his first season in the league as the odds-on favorite for Rookie of the Year honors.
