Knicks' Arron Afflalo: Opts out of contract for 2016-17

Afflalo opted out of his $8 million contract for the 2016-17 season and will become an unrestricted free agent, Michael Scotto of Sheridan Hoops reports.

Analysis:

Afflalo was never satisfied with his role with the Knicks last season, and the allure of a larger contract on the open market prompted the swingman to pursue free agency. He averaged 12.8 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.0 assists across 33.4 minutes per game in his 71 appearances with the Knicks in 2015-16, but might be hard-pressed to get that kind of playing time if he opts to sign with a contending team.
