Jazz select Marcus Paige with No. 55 pick

The Utah Jazz selected North Carolina guard Marcus Paige with the 55th pick in the 2016 NBA Draft.

Utah traded the 42nd pick to the Brooklyn Nets for cash considerations and the 55th selection earlier in the draft.

Paige was a standout performer in his four seasons with Roy Williams and the Tar Heels, averaging more than 29 minutes per game in each campaign. The Iowa native saw his numbers dip slightly in his senior season, averaging 12.6 points and 3.6 assists per game for the national runner-up.

Williams has praised Paige on many occasions, repeatedly pointing to his basketball IQ and work ethic as major areas of strength. The 6-foot-1, 175-pounder possesses solid handles, and is a good creator with the ball in hand. He is a streaky shooter, but when he's on, there are few players in the college game who were better. His versatility at the offensive end certainly makes him an intriguing prospect at the NBA level.

While Paige was a solid performer throughout his college career, some scouts think he peaked in his sophomore campaign. He averaged 17.5 points per game, while making 39 percent of his shots from beyond the arc. He never replicated that scoring success in subsequent seasons, and his lack of size will make the transition to the pro game difficult. Paige is an aggressive defender, but will likely find it much more difficult to matchup with the bigger guards he will see in the NBA.
