The New Orleans Pelicans landed a high-upside player Thursday by selecting Kansas center Cheick Diallo with the 33rd pick in the 2016 NBA Draft.

The Pelicans acquired the pick after sending the Los Angeles Clippers picks No. 39 and 40, according to The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski.

It's all about potential with Diallo. His physical profile (6-foot-9 height, 7-foot-5 wingspan, 35-inch vertical) stacks up against any other prospect in the draft, but the 19-year-old will be hard-pressed to make an immediate impact as a rookie.

Diallo only played 7.5 minutes per game at Kansas. He was behind some established seniors, but Jayhawks coach Bill Self didn't trust the raw freshman in many scenarios beyond garbage time. Some patience could see Diallo grow into a frightening rim protector in a few seasons.
