The Denver Nuggets landed a potential franchise-changing piece Thursday by selecting Kentucky guard Jamal Murray with the 7th pick in the 2016 NBA Draft.

Murray broke onto the scene as one of best scorers in the NCAA last season. The freshman guard from Kitchener, Ontario averaged 20 points per game while operating as the deadliest spot-up shooter in college. He shot 56 percent coming off screens and hit 40.8 percent of his looks from deep.

The Nuggets ranked 26th in 3-point percentage last season and could badly use a player with Murray's talents.

The 6-foot-5 Murray projects as a combo guard, but his pedestrian athleticism might hinder him at the next level. He had more turnovers than assists and his lack of an explosive first step could hinder his effectiveness as a well-rounded scoring threat.
