Los Angeles Clippers point guard Chris Paul and the Detroit Pistons organization have been named finalists for ESPN's Sports Humanitarian of the Year Awards.

Paul, a finalist for the individual honor, funded two full scholarships to his alma mater, Wake Forest, and opened three technology labs in communities across the country this year through the Chris Paul Family Foundation. The foundation's mission is to "positively impact individuals and families by leveling the playing field in education, sports, and life."

The other finalists are San Jose Sharks defenseman Brent Burns, New York Liberty center Tina Charles, and Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Carlos Dunlap.

The Pistons, meanwhile, were nominated for the Sports Humanitarian Team award, for their efforts to aid the city of Flint, Mich. in the wake of its water-contamination crisis. The other finalists in the team category are the MLS' LA Galaxy, NFL's San Francisco 49ers, and MLB's San Francisco Giants.

The winners will be announced in a July 12 award show in Los Angeles, with all proceeds from the show going towards the Stuart Scott Memorial Cancer Research Fund at The V Foundation.

Winners will receive a $100,000 grant from ESPN to their qualified charity, while the other finalists will get $25,000 grants.
