Team Canada will be short on star power in its bid for a spot in the Olympics.

Andrew Wiggins announced Friday he won't suit up for Canada in the qualifying tournament in July that'll decide the final three spots in the 2016 Summer Olympics.

Wiggins released a statement through his agent Bill Duffy:

After much though, consideration, and speaking with my family, I will not be participating in the Olympic Qualifying Tournament with the Canadian Men's National Team in July. As my third NBA season approaches, I understand my increased role with the Timberwolves and dedication to the upcoming season must have my total focus. We are building a championship-contending team, which has always been my goal. This was definitely not an easy decision and I fully support and wish Team Canada nothing but success this summer.

Other notable absences include Jamal Murray, Dwight Powell, Andrew Nicholson, Kelly Olynyk, Nik Stauskas, and Tristan Thompson.

Thompson's participation is questionable, as he's currently in the midst of a deep championship run with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Olynyk and Stauskas are both recovering from offseason surgery and won't play, TSN's Josh Lewenberg reports. Meanwhile, Powell and Nicholson likely won't, either, as they're free agents this summer.

Finally, Kentucky guard Jamal Murray has entered the NBA draft and is also unlikely to participate.

Canada will have three NBA representatives in Joel Anthony, Tyler Ennis, and Cory Joseph at the qualifying tournament that will feature 18 teams vying for three Olympic spots.

The preliminary Team Canada roster can be found here. Canada will still have the option to add players to the roster based on availability.
