The Los Angeles Lakers selected Duke's Brandon Ingram with the second overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft.

"We're ecstatic to have him," Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak said.

Standing 6-foot-9, with a 7-foot-3 wingspan, Ingram's size alone makes him one of the most intriguing prospects this year.

Equipped with a quick first-step, strong handles, and a deadly jump shot, Ingram's offensive game should translate well into the pros, and could one day make him into an elite scorer.

"I grew up being a Kobe fan," Ingram said. "I have a Lakers jersey back home. I'm going to work as hard as I can to be the best player I can."

Ingram will likely take time to mature defensively, but has the potential to be a shutdown player with his length and reach.

At just 196 pounds, Ingram will have to add considerable weight to his frail frame to compete physically with the NBA's elite. However, the Duke product told reporters during last month's draft lottery that he's already consuming 5,000 calories per day to put on the necessary weight for his rookie season.

Ingram joins DeAngelo Russell and Julius Randle as top-10 picks in the last three years to form a solid young core for the Lakers. With new coach Luke Walton poised to implement an uptempo system on offense, the historic club could be one of the more entertaining teams to watch come next season.
