Curry on Westbrook: 'I could care less about people's opinion of me'

Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star Russell Westbrook couldn't contain his laughter when asked about Stephen Curry being underrated as a defender following a 120-111 loss to the Golden State Warriors in Game 5 on Thursday.

Westbrook's snickering didn't seem to faze the league's back-to-back Most Valuable Player, though.

"I could care less about people's opinion of me," Curry said on Saturday. "I know what I do for my team and what my teammates expect of me on both ends of the floor."

Since Westbrook wasn't willing to answer the question at the time, Kevin Durant did so for him, noting how the Warriors elect to throw Klay Thompson and Andre Iguodala at his teammate more than Curry.

This is the second time this month where Curry has acted aloof after a fellow NBA star seemingly disrespected him. LeBron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers praised Curry for his MVP win, but questioned the difference between being the most valuable to a team and being the absolute best overall.

"I've gotten really good at ignoring people," Curry said of James' comments.

Westbrook wasn't shy in critiquing Curry's game before Game 1 of the Western Conference finals even got underway, saying how "he's a shooter," and that "he's not nothing I haven't seen."

Curry has certainly gotten his offense during the series, averaging a team-high 25.6 points and 4.8 assists, although his shooting percentages of 42.6 percent from the field and 37.3 from deep - while respectable - are both down from the 50.4 and 45.4 percent he achieved during the regular season, respectively.

Defensively, Curry has caused Westbrook more grief than he'd probably like to admit. With Curry as his primary defender, Westbrook is shooting 8-of-25 from the field and has turned the ball over seven times, according to ESPN Stats and Info.

Game 6 goes down at Chesapeake Energy Arena on Saturday night.

With a victory, the Thunder will advance to the NBA Finals for the second time in five years.
