Anthony Davis loses out on $23M contract clause

Anthony Davis' miserable 2015-16 campaign continues even after the games have finished.

Not only did the New Orleans Pelicans miss the playoffs following a promising showing in 2014-15, Davis will also miss out on nearly $23 million over the life of his five-year maximum contract.

Since Davis wasn't named to any of the All-NBA Teams, the "Rose Rule clause" in his contract won't be triggered. Davis came into the season needing an MVP award, to be voted a starter for the All-Star Game, or be named to an All-NBA Team.

Davis finished ninth among frontcourt players in All-Star Game voting, and trailed LaMarcus Aldridge by 27 points for an All-NBA Third Team spot.

Had he hit any of those benchmarks, Davis would have earned 30 percent of the salary cap. Instead, he'll continue to collect the five-year, $145-million extension he inked last summer.

Davis may have gotten his money had injuries not derailed his season. With averages of 24.3 points, 10.3 rebounds, and two blocks, Davis' production stacked up against any of the players named to the All-NBA teams.

However, he missed 21 games and his Pelicans won just 30 games.
