Brian Shaw is closing in on a deal with the Los Angeles Lakers to become a lead assistant under new head coach Luke Walton, according to the Los Angeles Times' Brad Turner.

The former NBA guard turned coach served as an assistant for the organization from 2004 through 2011, winning two championships while Walton suited up as a player for the team.

He was hired by the Denver Nuggets in 2013 to replace George Karl as their head coach, accumulating an overall record of 56-85 (.397) during his two-year stint before being shown the door on March 23, 2015.

Shaw worked as an assistant coach for the Indiana Pacers for one season prior to heading to the Mile High City.

The Lakers are coming off their worst campaign in franchise history after finishing 17-65 (.207). This led to the dismissal of former head coach Byron Scott, with Walton being hired less than a week later.
