Eighteen years ago Wednesday, Chicago Bulls shooting guard Michael Jordan joined elite company by becoming the third player in NBA history to collect five MVP awards.

At 35 years of age, Jordan also became the oldest player to be named MVP, after averaging 30.1 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 5.3 assists during the 1997-98 season.

Here are the top three moments from that incredible campaign:

Dropping 44 on the Knicks (Jan. 9, 1998)

After being tortured by Jordan for years, New York Knicks supporters shouldn't have expected any less when he arrived at Madison Square Garden in January.

Jordan was unstoppable from the field, dropping 44 points on 17-of-33 shooting to lead the Bulls to a nail-biting 90-89 victory.

It wasn't the only time Jordan torched the Knicks that year, as he would go on to score 44 again in the regular-season finale.

Collecting his third All-Star MVP award (Feb. 8, 1998)

With a reputation for being a fierce competitor, Jordan wasn't in the business of taking a night off, even during an All-Star Game.

Jordan put on a show during the 1998 All-Star festivities at Madison Square Garden, leading the East to a 135-114 victory with 23 points, eight assists, six rebounds, and three steals.

"The Shot" (June 14, 1998)

Michael Jordan sealed his legacy as the greatest player of all time in Game 6 of the 1998 Finals, sinking the final shot with 5.2 seconds remaining to carry the Bulls to their sixth championship.

Not only would it mark arguably the greatest moment in NBA history, but it would also be his last in a Bulls uniform, as Jordan would go on to announce his retirement in the ensuing offseason.
