Celtics' Kelly Olynyk: Underwent successful shoulder surgery

Olynyk underwent successful athroscopy surgery on his right shoulder Monday, Adam Himmelsbach of The Boston Globe reports.

Analysis:

Olynyk underwent the procedure to fix recurrent subluxations, which are similar to dislocations in the fact that the bone dislodges from the shoulder socket. However, subluxations are only temporary, and the bone usually pops back into place on its own within a short period of time. Despite the successful surgery, Olynyk still remains without a concrete timetable for return, although other players with similar injuries have historically needed roughly five months to recover. That timeline would put his availability for the start of the regular season in question, and almost certainly means that he won't suit up for Team Canada this summer in the 2016 Olympics in Rio.
