For nearly two decades, hoops junkies and hip-hop heads alike have wondered which member of the New York Knicks The Notorious B.I.G. was referencing in his 1997 track 'I Got A Story To Tell," in which the late rapper details the gunpoint robbery of a Knick player after being caught in an affair with said player's significant other.

On Monday, New York rapper Fat Joe told ESPN's Highly Questionable that the player in question was Anthony Mason, one of the most popular Knicks during the team's run of contention in the early-to-mid-90s.

Fat Joe did add, however, that rappers are often guilty of stretching the truth like any other entertainers.

Mason died of congestive heart failure last year after suffering a massive heart attack.

Back in 2014, Knicks legend John Starks squashed rumours that he was the subject of the song, adding that it was a true story, though.

Duke fans, meanwhile, were convinced it was about UNC assistant (and former Knick) Hubert Davis.
