Portland Trail Blazers head coach Terry Stotts has been rewarded by the organization following a miraculous 2015-16 campaign in which the team finished with a 44-38 record.

Stotts has agreed to a three-year extension that will take him through the 2019-20 season, according to The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski.

His new deal, worth a reported $5 million per year, will begin at the start of the 2017-18 season, since management has elected to exercise the team option on the final year of Stotts' original contract.

Owner Paul Allen and general manager Neil Olshey waited until after the team had been bounced from the playoffs before discussing an extension.

Portland advanced all the way to the Western Conference semifinals before ultimately falling in five games to the defending NBA champion Golden State Warriors.

The roster was decimated last summer with the departure of four starters. LaMarcus Aldridge left to sign on with the San Antonio Spurs, Wesley Matthews landed with the Dallas Mavericks, Robin Lopez headed to the Big Apple to join the New York Knicks, and Nicolas Batum was dealt to the Charlotte Hornets.

With a ton of new, young pieces at his disposal, Stotts took a Blazers team which was projected to finish near the bottom of the standings to a third-straight playoff berth. Portland knocked off a game-but-injured Los Angeles Clippers team in the opening round.

Stotts has compiled a 182-146 (.555) record during his first four years with the Blazers. He also finished second in NBA Coach of the Year voting this season behind the Warriors' Steve Kerr.
