Report: Grizzlies targeting Vogel, Messina, Ewing for head coach

The Memphis Grizzlies are targeting some big names in search of their next head coach.

The Grizzlies are working from a list of candidates that includes Frank Vogel, sources told The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski. The team is looking for a coach with a strong track record for player development.

Vogel plans to take a few days off after being let go by the Indiana Pacers last week. Having gotten the best out of Paul George, Roy Hibbert, and even Lance Stephenson, Vogel fits the bill as a development coach.

The Grizzlies have also started to reach out to other candidates. Former Phoenix Suns coach Jeff Hornacek, San Antonio Spurs assistant Ettore Messina, Charlotte Hornets assistant Patrick Ewing, Portland Trail Blazers assistant Nate Tibbetts, and longtime Miami Heat assistant David Fizdale are also on the list.

Wojnarowski notes that the Grizzlies are still in the preliminary stages of their search, but relays that general manager Chris Wallace and his assistant will meet with candidates this week at the Chicago predraft camp.

Memphis fired Dave Joerger on Saturday after he led the team to a 147-99 record over the past three seasons.
