In an odd twist to the fallout from the dismissal of coach Dave Joerger, Memphis Grizzlies general manager Chris Wallace had permission from the team to interview for a recent Sacramento Kings' open front office position, according to ESPN's Marc Stein.

The report comes as Joerger apparently moves to the top of the Kings' coaching wish list, the same day he was fired by Wallace in Memphis. Wallace said on Saturday that the decision to remove Joerger was not related to the team's on-court performance. Rumors have flown for a long time that the coach butted heads with team management, and The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the organization was not happy with Joerger's request to interview for positions with other teams.

The Kings ended up hiring Ken Catanella last month as an assistant to general manager Vlade Divac. The Wallace report is interesting as it would be unusual for a general manager to voluntarily leave one franchise to become an assistant GM with a less-successful one.

Wallace has served as a Grizzlies executive since 2007. In 2012, he had his title of president removed when the organization hired former ESPN analytics specialist John Hollinger for the role. Wallace has continued on as GM.
