Knicks' Kristaps Porzingis: Will skip 2016 Summer Olympics

Porzingis (shoulder) said Monday that he won't play for Latvia in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Reinis Lacis of SB Nation reports.

Analysis:

The right shoulder strain that sidelined Porzingis for the final seven games of the regular season wouldn't have prevented the big man from taking part in the Olympics if he wanted to, but much to the Knicks' delight, it looks like he'll spend most of the offseason in New York training under the team's supervision. The 20-year-old established himself as a cornerstone for the team's future with a surprisingly effective rookie season, and is expected to take his game to even greater heights in 2016-17.
