Thomas will not return to Tuesday's Game 5 against the Hawks due to a mild left ankle sprain, Jay King of The Republican reports.

Analysis:

Already down Avery Bradley, it looks as though the Celtics are taking a precautionary route with Thomas with Game 5 out of hand. The mild label would seem to indicate Thursday's Game 6 is still in play for the star point guard but the team should update his status again in the coming days. If he were to miss beyond Tuesday, Marcus Smart would presumably take on a larger role at point guard.
