The Washington Wizards officially announced the hiring of Scott Brooks as head coach Tuesday.

The team did not release terms of Brooks' contract but previous reports suggested that Brooks would earn up to $35 million over five years.

"I am beyond thrilled to return to coaching with a team that is filled with such potential and to be able to join an organization that is committed to helping us reach our goals," said Brooks in the press release.

"I'm very grateful to Ted Leonsis and Ernie Grunfeld for this opportunity and I can promise the great fans of Washington that we will work extremely hard both on and off the court to represent them in a manner fitting the most powerful city in the world."

Having made his bones with the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Wizards are hoping that Brooks will be able to foster and develop young talent as he did in his previous stop where he amassed a record of 338-207 across seven seasons.

Brooks was the only candidate that the Wizards considered.
