Grizzlies' Joerger, Allen disagree on source of inspiration

David Richard / USA TODAY Sports

There's no doubt the Memphis Grizzlies are heavy underdogs against the San Antonio Spurs.

After dropping Game 1 by 32 points, pulling off an upset is essentially out of the question. But if the Dallas Mavericks proved anything, it's that pristine execution can outweigh sheer talent.

But will the Grizzlies look to the Mavericks for inspiration? The verdict remains decidedly split:

Alas, there are plenty of similarities between the two underdogs, but Memphis' situation is far more dire than the uphill climb the Mavericks face.

In addition to facing a stronger, more disciplined team, the Grizzlies are also trotting out what's essentially a D-League roster after being besieged by a near-biblical rash of injuries.

Or put it this way: The Grizzlies are 18-point underdogs for Game 2.
