Report: Timberwolves to interview Mark Jackson for coaching job

Kyle Terada / USA TODAY Sports

The Minnesota Timberwolves have already vetted Tom Thibodeau and Jeff Van Gundy, and they reportedly plan to add a third candidate to their head coaching hunt in short order.

The Wolves will interview former Golden State Warriors coach Mark Jackson for the vacant position on Wednesday, a source told Jon Krawczynski of The Associated Press.

Jackson has resumed his duties as an ESPN color commentator - alongside Van Gundy - since being dismissed by the Warriors following the 2013-14 season. In three seasons at the helm in Golden State, Jackson amassed a 121-109 record, with two playoff appearances and one series victory.

His tenure ended in some acrimony, amid reports of friction with some of his players, and the dismissal of two assistant coaches under him - one the result of "differences in philosophy."

Thibodeau is said to want full executive control of personnel decisions as part of any agreement to become the Wolves' coach, and it's unclear at this point if the organization will be willing to grant it to him, or will instead go in a different direction.
