Report: Knicks interested in trading for Kings' Collison

Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

After collecting just 32 wins in yet another disappointing campaign for the franchise, the New York Knicks will inevitably look to make roster upgrades this summer, particularly at the point guard position.

While there are several talented free agents on the market, the Knicks may look to trade for Sacramento Kings point guard Darren Collison, ESPN's Ian Begley reports, citing sources.

Collison excelled coming off the bench in 2015-16, averaging 14 points, 4.3 assists, and one steal on 48.6 percent shooting - numbers good enough to earn him a second-place vote for Sixth Man of the Year.

The 28-year-old has one year remaining on his contract and is scheduled to make $5.2 million in 2016-17, a very reasonable deal given the NBA's rising cap.

With at least $18 million in cap space, the Knicks would likely have the funds available to take on Collison's contract, while having money left over to add a notable free agent.
