Grizzlies' GM: We are going to re-sign Mike Conley

Justin Ford-USA TODAY Sports

To say Memphis Grizzlies general manager Chris Wallace is confident in his team's chances to re-sign starting point guard Mike Conley would be an understatement.

"We are undefeated in re-signing our core players, and we will remain so. We are going to re-sign Mike Conley," Wallace told ESPN's Chris Vernon.

While brash, Wallace makes a valid point. Wallace signed Zach Randolph to a two-year, $20-million deal in 2014 and kept Marc Gasol last summer after signing the All-NBA center to a five-year max contract.

Conley has spent all nine of his NBA seasons with the Grizzlies after being chosen fourth overall in the 2007 Draft. The 28-year-old averaged 15.3 points, 6.1 assists, and 2.9 rebounds on 42.2 percent shooting, but has yet to play since suffering an Achilles injury in March.

With the salary cap projected to rise to $92 million, Conley will undoubtedly have several suitors when free agency opens this summer.

Down 2-0 to the San Antonio Spurs following back-to-back blowout defeats, Memphis fans have little to cheer for these days. However, a healthy Conley back for next season could help renew faith for the Grizzlies' fan base.
