Report: NBA restricts Colangelo's reach with Team USA

Joe Toth-US PRESSWIRE / Reuters

In an effort to root out conflicting interests, the NBA has moved to restrict Jerry Colangelo's reach.

Since Colangelo serves as an adviser to the Philadelphia 76ers in addition to operating as the Chairman of USA Basketball, the league has placed new restrictions upon Colangelo's access to the national team, Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical reports.

Teams were concerned that Colangelo could use his influence and access to the Sixers' advantage in free agency.

The new restrictions stipulate Colangelo is no longer allowed to vote for the final national team and Olympic rosters, and he must contact rival general managers if he makes contact with their team's players or their agents.

Wojnarowski reports the restrictions will continue to apply to Colangelo so long as he's still involved with the Sixers or any other NBA team.
